Tax season is here! What are you waiting for?
The UST Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) priority filing date was April 1, 2008 for the 2008-09 academic year. However, the Financial Aid Office will continue to accept and process FAFSA data as applications are received. Some funding may no longer be available but it is still best to file your FAFSA as soon as possible.
The Financial Aid Office is currently sending out award notices to students who have filed their FAFSA and completed all paperwork necessary to process their financial aid. Make sure you are checking your UST e-mail daily to insure you receive any communications from our office regarding your application for financial aid.
The UST Business Office and Financial Aid Office have teamed up to develop resources aimed at helping our students understand everything from checking accounts to credit scores. New resources will be made available to students as they are developed.
If you are interested in learning about personal finance, please visit the UST Financial Literacy Website.
And remember, any new content will be developed based on feedback from students and other members of the UST community. Please e-mail us if you have suggestions for other financial topic you would like to see addressed.
The Financial Aid Office communicates with students during the school year via e-mail whenever possible but sending paper correspondence is sometimes necessary. Please make sure you don't miss any important information sent by the Financial Aid Office.
Here are some steps you can take to stay connected:
The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 (H.R. 2669) signed into law on Sept. 27, 2007 contains significant changes to the Federal Family Educational Loan Program (FFELP). The legislation is designed to cut subsidies paid to lenders and use the savings to boost Federal Pell Grants, cut the interest rate on some student loans and expand repayment options for students.

Many students and their families use the Federal PLUS Loan and/or the Minnesota State SELF Loan Program to finance their educational costs at UST. Those families who would like to take advantage of these programs should begin the application process in mid-July to ensure the funds are processed and received before the beginning of the fall semester.
SELF Loan borrowers and cosigners can apply online at www.selfloan.org. It is recommended that the cosigner begin by getting pre-approved and then have the student borrower continue the process. Remember to print out your completed application, sign the document, and have your cosigner’s signature notarized before mailing your application directly to the Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
Parents who would like to borrow a Federal PLUS Loan should complete the UST Federal PLUS Loan Information Request Form. This form can be returned to the Financial Aid Office via fax or standard mail. Our fax number and return address are listed on the bottom of the form.
