Types of Financial Aid

Scholarships

A scholarship is a gift given in recognition of academic achievement, special talents or contributions to church, school or community.  First-time freshmen are considered automatically for St. Thomas Scholarships and Awards by completing the admission process.

Grants

A grant is a gift given on the basis of financial need. By completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a student is automatically considered for all federal, state and university grant funds.

Work Study/Student Employment

Campus work-study allows a student to earn a portion of his/her college expenses by working at a part-time job on campus or in an off-campus community service position. By completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), a student is automatically considered for  federal and state work-study funding. While priority consideration for campus employment is given to federal and state work study recipients, all students are eligible for employment on campus.

Loans

Loans must be repaid. Student loan programs allow you to borrow money at low interest rates to help pay for your education. Generally the repayment of student loans is deferred until after you complete your education. Because loans must be repaid, borrow responsibly.
