Course Registration Policy

The Financial Aid Office reviews official registration as of the 10th day of classes each semester and will revise financial aid if necessary. Be sure that you are officially registered in all of your courses by the 10th day of classes, including your waitlisted courses.

Below is a general guide to how financial aid awards may change based upon your official registration as of the 10th day of classes.

University of St. Thomas Grants, Scholarships and Awards

Most university funds require that you be officially registered in 12 or more credits per semester to receive your maximum award. If you are registered for fewer than 12 credits, your St. Thomas aid will be reduced or canceled.

Any university awards that are based on exact tuition charges will be modified accordingly.

Minnesota State Grant

In order to receive the maximum state grant, recipients must be enrolled in 15 or more credits each semester. If you are registered for fewer than 15 credits, your Minnesota State Grant will be reduced accordingly.

Federal Pell Grant or Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

In order to receive the maximum Pell Grant or Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, recipients must be enrolled in 12 or more credits per semester. If you are registered in fewer than 12 credits, your federal grant funds will be reduced accordingly.

Student Loans and Work Study

In order to receive the maximum student loan or work-study award, recipients must be enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per semester. If you are registered in fewer than 12 credits, your loan and work funds may be reduced accordingly. If you are registered in fewer than six credits, you are not eligible to receive any federal loans.
