Summer Writing Across the Curriculum Seminar

June 28 and 29, July 6, 7, and 8, 2011
9 a.m.-noon
Led by Dr. Chris Anson
Internationally-recognized Writing Across the Curriculum specialist University Distinguished Professor; Director, Campus Writing & Speaking Program, North Carolina State University

Each participant receives a $500 stipend upon submission of revised course materials.

After three hours of presentation and discussion, participants will have the afternoons to work on their courses and to consult individually with Chris Anson. He will cover the following topics:

  • What does it mean to approach writing as a process as well as a product?
  • What is the relationship of writing to thinking?
  • How can writing be used as a tool for learning subject matter and for critical thinking?
  • What are effective ways to plan, present, sequence, and assess both formal and informal writing assignments?
  • What are helpful and efficient ways to respond to student writing?

  3. Whether you will revise the course to be Writing Intensive, Writing to Learn, or Writing in the Disciplines
  4. Please briefly describe how you currently use writing in the course and your goals for participating in the seminar.
