QPR Brown Bag
On November 5, UST’s Counseling and Psychological Services office will hold two brown bag sessions for faculty on suicide prevention using the QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) strategy. QPR is a takeoff on CPR and is one of the only empirically validated treatments for suicide prevention in the country. The brown bag will help faculty recognize when a student is at risk for suicide and increase:
- knowledge of intervention skills
- knowledge of referral resources and how to refer someone to help
- comfort with intervening
All faculty are invited to attend. Department chairs are encouraged to send at least one department representative to bring back information from the brown bag.
Date: Tuesday, November 5
St. Paul Campus: Noon-1 pm in Murray Herrick Center, room 205 (Please feel free to bring your lunch to this session.)
Minneapolis Campus: 3-4 pm in Opus Hall, room 201
Please R.S.V.P. online at: http://stthomasaa.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_7NBO9lGyhh8xXeZ
By attending one of the brown bag sessions you will be better prepared to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis know what to do if you encounter a situation with a student, just like people learn CPR to deal with a physical emergency.
