From the Director - December 2013
From my desk to yours: Two end-of-semester tips and one heartfelt wish for a great holiday.
By Dr. Ann Johnson, Faculty Development Director
Tips. First, I’m recycling some advice for designing the last day of class from a column published last May. Make your last day memorable! And second, to speed up your grading so you can enjoy the season, use rubrics (if you’re not already doing so). Blackboard has online interactive rubrics that will really speed up your grading – and save paper.
Finally, as you say goodbye to 2013 and reflect on all the year brought to your door, here’s a blessing from Celtic poet John O’Donohue:
“We bless this year for all we learned,
For all we loved and lost
And for the quiet way it brought us
Nearer to our invisible destination.”
(From To Bless the Space Between Us, 2008).
Wishing you a wonderful holiday and relaxing break.
