Distinguished Visitors Grant
This award is designed to enhance the intellectual atmosphere of the University through presentations, colloquia, or dialogues with distinguished scholars, teachers, practitioners, and others. Distinguished visitors may be proposed by any unit of the university, should have broad appeal to the faculty, and must be available to the larger University community via some appropriate public forum.
Application Deadline: at least one month prior to visit. Applications are not accepted between May 1 and August 15.
Maximum award: $1,000
The Center will fund an amount up to 75% of the budgeted amount or $1000, whichever is less. It is expected that the requesting unit will provide at least 25% of the total amount needed from its own or other sources.
Application process: Requests should be submitted on the application form, which includes the curriculum vitae of the distinguished visitor, title of presentation, anticipated schedule of presentations and meetings with the university community, as well as the anticipated budget for the visit. Send the completed application to the Faculty Development Center (firstname.lastname@example.org) at least one month prior to the anticipated date of the visit.
- Applicants are expected to show tangible evidence of co-sponsorship of the visitor that is outside of the applying unit.
- Proposals will be judged on the basis of the expected contribution of the visitor to the campus environment generally and to the potential for faculty development specifically.
- No unit of the university can be awarded more than two distinguished visitor grants in any one academic year.
Due to budget constraints we have only a small number of Distinguished Visitor grants available for the 2014-15 academic year. The maximum award is $500.
