Workshops on a variety of teaching topics are offered throughout the year. Some of these will directly pertain to issues of concern to particular groups of faculty, such as: teaching about race in the classroom, writing across the curriculum, using knowledge surveys for classroom assessment. Some workshops are intended to reach a more general faculty audience and address topics such as: preparing a book proposal or increasing scholarly productivity. The list of on-campus workhsops will be updated each semester and listed on the page "on campus workshops". In addition, the Center staff will advertise the workshops by email and paper mail well in advance of their scheduled date. An early reply to these announcements will secure your participation in the workshop.
Each summer, the Center sponsors a week long seminar for faculty to provide intensive study of a particular topic. These are excellent opportunities to work with colleagues from across the campus on topics of mutual interest such as: developing interdisciplinary courses or infusing sustainability into the curriculum.
The summer seminar may alternate each year with a slightly different format in which a week-long set of short workshops organized into a Faculty Development Week replaces the in-depth focus on one topic.
Each fall the Center sponsors the pariticpation of four UST faculty in the Midwest Faculty Seminar held in Chicago. The Center will email the announcement of the topics for the year, and faculty should apply to attend the seminar of their choice by writing a short one page proposal showing how the seminar will contribute to their teaching and/or scholarship.
Additional off campus opportunities for workshops pertaining to teaching and learning may be advertised from time to time on this site, but their occurrence is sporadic, and no formal announcement will be made campus-wide.
