Ann Johnson has been at St. Thomas since 1988, teaching in the Psychology department and serving in a number of administrative roles. As Director of the Faculty Development Center, she is interested in

  • Identifying and offering programs that foster growth and satisfaction for faculty at all career stages
  • Fostering engagement of diverse faculty
  • Promoting interdisciplinary conversation among faculty
  • Nurturing creative uses of technology to support student learning
  • Fostering evidence-based practices for both teaching and faculty development

She also carries out research on faculty beliefs and behaviors that enhance availability of mentoring opportunity for students from underrepresented groups. With faculty colleagues Jill Manske and Jayna Ditty, she is part of a multi-institutional, funded research project to 1) study barriers that limit access to faculty mentoring for students from diverse backgrounds, and 2) identify interventions to minimize those barriers.
