Summer Seminar
Summer, 2007 -- Purple, Gray, and Green: Infusing Sustainability into the UST Curriculum Leader: Elise Amel, Department of Psychology This workshop will explore how we can meaningfully integrate the environment—broadly defined--- into our classrooms. Participants will design new assignments or new units for a current course, or even complete new courses. Examples of how this has been done in a variety of disciplines at other institutions can be found at http://www.scienceandsociety.emory.edu/piedmont/curriculum.htm. Examples of readings for disciplines ranging from music to education to American studies can be found at http://www.scienceandsociety.emory.edu/piedmont/resources.htm. Summer 2007 -- New Ideas for Research and Teaching with Technology Leaders: Web and Media Services and UST Libraries This workshop will provide faculty with the opportunity to explore, experience, and consider how to apply several new technologies available for those purposes at UST. The two half-day sessions will include discussion, demonstration, some hands-on technology opportunities, and helpsheet handouts. As a result of the workshop experience, attendees will also be asked to develop and submit a description of an assignment, assessment, or research activity that could be tried this year. Summer 2006 -- Academic Freedom and the Catholic University Leader: Dr. Robert McNeil, Law Professor, University of Virginia The seminar will discuss both the general principles of academic freedom at a Catholic University and case studies. Summer 2005 -- Advancing Your Scholarly Agenda Leaders: Stephen Brookfield – Education, David Steele – External Grants Office, Corri Carvalho – Theology, Kendra Garrett – Social Work, Susan Marsnik – Ethics & Business Law, Dwight Nelson – Biology, and Brad Wilson – Economics This seminar will provide faculty with an opportunity to productively reflect upon their scholarly efforts, to identify obstacles and to develop strategies for moving beyond barriers.
