Writing Contest Winners!

We are thrilled to recognize the winners of our annual English majors essay contest and the Lon Otto Creative Writing prize:

English Major Essay Contest

First Place ($150): Jon Santos, for his essay "Pulled Apart: Structuralism in 'A Far Cry From Africa" that was written for Dr. Ray MacKenzie's ENGL 280 Introduction to English Studies class.

Second Place ($100): Hayley Graffunder, for her essay "Killing Love and Freedom with a Shove," that was written for Dr. Ray MacKenzie's ENGL 280 Introduction to English Studies class.


Lon Otto Creative Writing Prize

Letizia Mariani ($150, Poetry): "Meri Ros"

John Muellner ($150, Creative Nonfiction Prose): "I Didn't Come Here to Chit Chat: And Other Things That I'm Afraid Of"

Jon Santos ($150, Fiction): "Mary & Mary in the Morning"

The work of these three students are highlighted in the 2017 issue of the Summit Avenue Review, which was released on Friday, May 12th.
