Dr. Ray MacKenzie recently received news that his translation of Emile Zola's Germinal was one of three finalists in the translation category for the PEN Center USA 2012 Literary Awards. Although Germinal did not ultimately receive the translation prize when the winners were announced last week, the English Department congratulates him on being recognized by such a prestigious organization, "which strives to protect the rights of writers around the world, to stimulate interest in the written word, and to foster a vital literary community among the diverse writers living in the western United States."
The names of all of the 2012 Literary Award finalists and winners can be found on the PEN Center USA website at http://www.penusa.org/2012-literary-award-winners.
