This Summer Session II (July 15-August 22) class will focus on plays and playwrights of the American theater from 1900-1960. Works studies will be placed within the context of artistic movements within American theater, as well as developments in American society. The focus will include pioneers of modern American theater like Eugene O'Neill and Susan Glaspell, experimentalists like Sophie Treadwell and Elmer Rice, politically passionate playwrights, and the modern drama icons Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams. This course counts as elective credit.
