The place to start is the University of St. Thomas Financial Aid Office which describes the basics of financial aid, the FAFSA, UST Scholarships, Student Employment, and Loans.

UST Science, Mathematics and Engineering Scholarship

The UST Science, Mathematics and Engineering Scholarship is offered annually. Visit www.stthomas.edu/scischolar.

School of Engineering Scholarships

In addition to the UST scholarship offerings, the School of Engineering offers several other scholarships and specialized internships.

For entering freshman

One Board of Governor’s Scholarship is offered each year to an entering freshman on a competitive basis.  The amount of the scholarship is $10,000 per year for up to four years for an engineering student in good standing.  Application is by invitation through the Office of Admissions.

Dale Irwin Hayes Scholarship

The Dale Irwin Hayes Scholarship is provided to one engineering or pre-engineering student in the School of Engineering. The scholarship has a maximum value of $2,000, and can be applied to tuition, fees, books and supplies not otherwise covered or reimbursed by other forms of scholarship grant funds or other means. 

Criteria for the scholarship are:

  • A GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Full-time students (12 credits minimum per semester)
  • Engineering or pre-engineering student
  • Demonstrated financial need

Applications can be obtained from Joyce Taylor, Student Services Coordinator, School of Engineering, OSS 101. Application deadline is April 14, 2008. 

For upper division students

The Samuel Paine V-12 Scholarship is awarded annually to engineering students recommended by the faculty.

The J.E. Povolny Distinguished Alumni Scholarship is awarded annually to engineering students recommended by the faculty.

Two Twin City Fan Scholarship/Internships are awarded annually in the amount of $4,000 to engineering students.  Student applications and interviews with Twin City Fan are evaluated and recommendations made by engineering faculty.

One MTS/Zell international internship is awarded annually for an upper division engineering student.  Student applications and interviews with MTS are evaluated and recommendations made by engineering faculty.
