ENGR 320 Mechanics Robot Contest Fall 2007

ENGR 320 Fall 2007 Machine Design Competition

On Wednesday, December 5, the 3M auditorium was the scene of the annual ENGR320 “Machine Design Competition.”  The celebration was the culmination of a semester’s worth of work undertaken as part of the Machine Design and Synthesis course taught by Dr. AnnMarie Thomas and Mr. Roy Jenson, Lab instructor.  Eighteen machines, built by the 39 Mechanical Engineering students, took the stage for a single-elimination tournament.  The competition was for fun, as performance in the contest itself had no impact on their grades.  Nonetheless it was an exciting evening, undertaken in front of an enthusiastic audience!  The festivities began with dinner and a chance to inspect projects built by students in Dr. Michael Hennessey’s ENGR 220 Engineering Mechanics I labs.  After impressive performances by all 18 machines, the victor for the evening was Machine #3, built by Alex Peterson and Michael Kieffaber (see below picture).
