The first "Engineering Minnesota’s Future" event in 2006 featured Dr. William Wulf, President of the National Academy of Engineering. On that occasion, he highlighted the contributions engineers have made to society.  The second event in 2007 featured 3M Chairman, President and CEO George Buckley whose keynote stressed the importance of industry’s role as a catalyst for STEM education.

Photo of Betty ShanahanIn that tradition, the 2008 Engineering Minnesota’s Future will feature Betty Shanahan, Executive Director and CEO of the Society of Women Engineers speaking on the importance of diversity, and particularly women in science and engineering. Her talk, "Our Obligation to the Future - Broaden the Appeal of Engineering" promises to be enlightening one and we’re fortunate to have someone of her stature appear at the School of Engineering.

This year the event will be held on Jan. 17, 2008. We will again have an exhibition of organizations that provide science encouragement programs in Minnesota. Please stay tuned to developments on our Web site at www.stthomas.edu/engineering/EMF and mark your calendars to attend on Jan. 17
