A team of three juniors in UST’s Electrical Engineering program competed recently in the IEEEXtreme Coding Competition and placed 101st out of 800+ teams from all over the world. The team known as "The Purple Programmers" consisted of Craig Martin, Angela McGehee and Joshua Kleven.
This competition pits students worldwide in a grueling 24 hour contest to see who can program the most correct programs. The competition started at 0000 UCT (7 PM Minneapolis time) on October 23, 2009 and ran for 24 straight hours.
This was the first time a team from UST has competed in this competition and many of the teams had competed before and some were made up of graduate students. That makes placing 101st out of 800 even more outstanding!
The team took over the engineering conference room with it’s large screen computer for the day (and night) and, together with lots of coffee, pop, pizza and only short cat-naps to stay refreshed, they worked their way through the problems. Thanks to Angela, Craig and Josh for so ably representing UST!
