2010 J-Term and Spring Semester

 

ü  CAPSTONE:  Ron Bennett will be teaching the Capstone class in Spring Semester; if you are planning to graduate in Fall 2010, you should consider taking this Capstone class.  If you have any questions, please contact your advisor.

 

ü  New Student applications for Spring Semester 2010 should be received by December 1, 2009 for priority processing; applications received after December 1, 2009 will be processed on a case by case basis.  Since registration begins in November, it is important to submit your application as soon as possible.

 

ü  NEW STUDENTS:  Attendance at the New Student Orientation scheduled for January 2010 is encouraged; you will learn about the School of Engineering, library services, parking, and more. Details regarding New Student Orientation will be sent out soon.

 

ü  Graduating Spring Semester 2010?  Deadline to apply for graduation is February 12, 2010;  please send the APPLICATION TO GRADUATE FORM to Joyce Taylor at jataylor1@stthomas.edu.

 

ü  Students registered for ETLS 550 (all sections), Leveraging Leadership for Lifetime I, will be assessed a fee for testing materials; the fee is approximately $350.00.

ü  Use your UST email account!  Instructors as well as the Business Office frequently send emails which always go to the UST email account.  It is easy to forward your UST email account to a personal/business email:

Follow the instructions and you will have forwarded your email!

ü  Students are encouraged to meet with their advisor the first semester they take classes in order to complete a degree plan.

 

ü  Has your application for admission been formally accepted?  Any student who has not been formally admitted to a degree program and has taken two or more courses must complete admission requirements to continue to take courses; you will have a hold on your record preventing registration.  Contact Joyce Taylor at 651-962-5756 or jataylor1@stthomas.edu to complete your application for admission.

 

ü  The deadline for registration is the day before classes begin.  You must be registered for a class to attend the class.  Questions?  Contact Joyce Taylor at 651-962-5756 or jataylor1@stthomas.edu.

 

ü  Bad weather?  Check the UST Snow Emergency Hotline to see if classes are cancelled due to bad weather.  Number is 651-962-7669.

 

ü  An escort service is available on the St. Paul campus when classes are in session.  Call 2-5100 from any university telephone if you would like to be escorted to or from class.  Escorts will arrive within five minutes and will be able to escort you anywhere in a six-block radius of the St. Paul campus.

 

ü  In case of an emergency and your family needs to reach you while you are in class, it is important to give the UST Public Safety and Parking Services Department as much information as possible; they can be reached at (651) 962-5100.  They will need to know the name, number and section of the course you are taking and, if possible, the building and room number in to reach you quickly.

 

ü  Directory Disclosure:  Directory information is released to the public unless you specifically request the information not be released.  Categories include your name, address, telephone number, class, current schedule of classes, dates of attendance, degree and awards and other schools attended.  To withhold information, notify Joyce Taylor at 651-962-5756 no later than February 1, 2010.  The order for withholding will remain in effect until the student rescinds it in writing.  (See FERPA information)

 

ü  Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA): The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act affords students these rights with respect to their education records:

 

1.       The right to inspect and review education records within 45 days of the day the University receives a request for access.

2.       The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the student believes are inaccurate or misleading.

3.       The right to consent of disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorized disclosure without consent.

4.       The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the University of St. Thomas to comply with the requirements of FERPA
