Registration


   Announcements

Registration Begins - On-line graduate registration begins April 20, 2009 at 9:00 am.

Tuition:  The 2009-2010 tuition rate is $762.50/credit which is $2,287.50 for a 3-credit course; a technology fee of $39.50 per semester for 3-5 credits OR $79.50 for 6 or more will be added to your student account.

ETLS 550 Leveraging Leadership I students will be assessed a fee for testing materials of approximately $350.00.

   New Students: Attendance at the New Student Orientation scheduled for August, 2009 is expected.  You will have an opportunity to learn which services are available, obtain your UST ID card, purchase a parking permit, and much more. Details will be announced later.

Applications for Fall Semester 2009 admission need to be received before August 1, 2009. Application received after that date will be processed on a case-by-case basis.

Requesting advance registration by email? Please include your UST ID and CRN; both are required for registration. Written requests are required for all registration and course cancellations.

Include your UST ID number on all communications.

New Degrees in the Graduate Program

Beginning Fall 2009, two new degrees will be added to the graduate program:

Master of Science in Regulatory Science (MSRS)
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME)

New Course Offerings for Fall 2009
 

ETLS 591 - Advanced Thermal Design.  Will be offered on Wednesday evenings, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The instructor is Dr. Eph Sparrow.

ETLS 737 - International Regulatory Affairs for Medical Devices. Will be offered on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The instructor is Erdie de Peralta, Manager of Regulatory Affairs at Boston Scientific.

ETLS 699 - Topics: Energy: Generation, Economics and Sustainability. A technical-economic perspective on renewable and conventional energy. The course will provide an in depth study of the world energy markets, distribution and environmental impacts. A major emphasis will focus on the technical elements of generation, storage, delivery and sustainability, as well as an economic analysis of the major technologies.  Will be offered on Tuesday evenings from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Instructor is Ranjan Chakravarty of Siemens.

Choose a Set of Requirements

Remember that you may choose the set of requirements in place when you were formally admitted into the degree program or any subsequent set of requirements. You are not allowed to mix requirements or pick and choose requirements you want to fulfill. You must completely meet one set of requirements. Check with your advisor for more information.

   Information Meetings

Prospective students are invited to attend our Information Meetings that introduce our degree programs and courses. A list if upcoming meetings may be viewed at: www.stthomas.edu/engineering/graduate/prospectivestudents/default.html

Parking is available by turning at the corner of Cretin and Grand Avenues into the St. Thomas parking lot. Then use one of the many parking meters available. Call 651-962-5750 at least 24 hours in advance to register for a parking permit that will allow you to park without charge.    

   Moved?

Make sure you contact the Student Services Office at 651-962-5756 if you change address, change your position at work, or even change jobs. Your E-Mail address needs to be updated whenever it changes. Update your telephone number as well whenever it changes.

   Books and Bookstore

Bookstore hours are extended at the beginning of each semester to assist students in textbook purchase. Textbooks are available by mail if you desire or can be purchased in the St. Paul Bookstore.  Bookstore hours are available by calling 651-962-6850.  See http://tommiebooks.stthomas.edu
Books may change from semester to semester; make sure you are looking at the correct semester's syllabus when you purchase books.

   Graduate Commencement

If you intend to graduate Fall semester 2009, you must contact Student Services at 651-962-5756 to complete the Application to Graduate form no later than September 22, 2009. Email your request to jataylor1@stthomas.edu.              

   Parking

Current pricing and parking information is available on the Public Safety and Parking Services web site at http://www.stthomas.edu/psps/Parking/Parking Home.htm (on the right under St. Paul Parking, select "Permit & Contract Parking").

   Escort Service

An escort service is available on the St. Paul campus while classes are in session. Call 2-5100 from any university telephone if you would like to be escorted to or from class. Escorts will arrive within five minutes and will be able to escort you anywhere within a six-block radius of the St. Paul campus.

   In Case of an Emergency

If your family should need to reach you while you are in class, it is important to give the UST Public Safety Department, at 651-962-5100, as much  information as possible. They will need to know the name, number and section of the course you are taking and, if possible, building and room number in order  reach you quickly.

   Directory Disclosure

Directory information is released to the public unless you specifically request the information not be released. Categories include your name, address, telephone number, class, current schedule of classes, dates of attendance, degrees and awards and other schools attended. To withhold information, notify Student Services in the Engineering office at 651-962-5756 no later than September 9, 2009. Your request must be filled out annually and will remain in effect until the first day of the following fall semester. (See FERPA information.)   

   Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords students these rights with respect to their education records.

  1. The right to inspect and review education records within 45 days of the day the University receives a request for access.
  2. The right to request the amendment of the student’s education records that the student believes are inaccurate or misleading.
  3. The right to consent of disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student’s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.
  4. The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the University of St. Thomas to comply with the requirement of FERPA.

    ID Card

You do need a photo I.D. while attending the University of St. Thomas. To get your free I.D. card, visit the Card Office in Room 259 in Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Hours vary by semester. Call 651-962-6069 for hours and information. You do not need to get a new card each year.

The ID card can also be used in campus vending machines, parking facilities, eating facilities and bookstore when an "Express" account is established by prepaying funds to be used by the card. Contact the Card Office to establish an "Express" account.
