Graduate programs in Engineering and Technology Management are an array of educational options designed to meet the diverse needs of industry and the busy individuals we serve. From short courses to full-fledged master's degrees, our programs represent accessible and career-related learning opportunities to people seeking varying degrees of educational involvement.
Our degree tracks are four distinct means by which students can improve their careers by building skills, gaining knowledge and broadening their perspectives. Rigorous and respected, these degree programs are designed to produce graduates with the knowledge, creativity, courage and integrity to be leaders in their fields and make a difference.
Course offerings stress an applied, systems oriented approach to engineering. This systems approach is especially important given the trend toward multi-functional teams, simultaneous engineering, and continuous improvement seen in most manufacturing companies today. This concept of system extends into all areas of manufacturing, including product design, employee relations, the relationship of suppliers to the manufacturing process, and the acceptance of products in the marketplace.
For the most part, our students are working adults with an average of ten years of industrial experience. The average age of the students is 32. Most are sponsored by manufacturing firms in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The department also attracts a growing number of full-time students from other regions of the United States and other countries.
A number of international students are pursuing their graduate degree in Manufacturing Engineering. Current international students represent China, South America, and Jordan.
Each year, a degree plan for each degree is prepared as part of our continuous improvement program. Students are allowed to use the degree plan in effect when they are formally accepted (not started in a program) into the degree program or any subsequent set of requirements. Students may not mix requirements between degree plans. Consult with your advisor for assistance in working through a degree plan. Go to the Engineering Grad Student Handbook if you wish to look back.
