Career For over 30 years, Bob Bach has been engaged in precision manufacturing in the Twin Cities. His job experiences and training include Dunwoody’s Machine Tool program, State of Minnesota Tool & Die Apprenticeship, Master Journeyman die & mold maker, University of Minnesota Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering - Heat Transfer, University of St. Thomas Master of Science - Manufacturing Systems, and developing & teaching manufacturing courses for Dunwoody and many Twin Cities companies. As a Tool Process Engineer with Honeywell, Bob gained experience in tool design and estimating, CAD/CAM, metal stamping, precision grinding & machining, plastic molding, die casting, heat treating, laser cutting, metrology, ISO standards, G D & T, automation tooling, prototype and model making, Six-Sigma & Lean Mfg., and was the Tool & Die Apprenticeship Education Chair. At present, Bob is a Minnesota Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer, employed by St. Jude Medical in Minnetonka. As an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of St. Thomas, he provides individual assistance to engineering students for Senior Design and other projects. He also serves on Dunwoody’s Board of Managers and is active in community service. Personal interests include music, art, history, hiking, biking, skiing, and trout fishing. Education
Teaching Experience University of St. Thomas • 5 years providing individual training and project assistance for engineering students. Dunwoody College of Technology • 3 years teaching shop class for 1st-year day school tool & die students. Machining process demos and individual help. Revised curriculum. Every day, late afternoons. • Developed new curriculum and instructed 'Level 1 Machinist' 5-month course per NIMS standards (National Institute of Machining Skills). Course included math/trig, material science, print reading, tool geometry, and operation of precision machine tools. • Revised and instructed basic shop skills course for the Welding and Automated Packaging Machine Program students (day school). Courses developed and delivered through Dunwoody’s Customized Training Dept (wrote curriculum per customer needs and presented at customer site): • Basic Printreading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (G D & T) at Tennant Company, Golden Valley, MN facility. • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (G D & T) for Minco Corporation, Fridley, MN • Machining and Shop Safety for engineers and techs at Turck, Inc. Plymouth (have taught this class 6 times in past 9 years). • Plastics and The Manufacturing Process for Manhattan Toy Company in downtown Mpls. Presented to toy designers, marketers, VP of Operations. • Tool and Cutter Grinding for Tennant Company’s Maple Grove plant. • Shop safety and basic machining for engineers, technicians, and machinists at Onan’s Fridley plant (40 people). • Lockout – Tagout procedures and Press Brake Safety for Onan / Fridley. • Basic Machining and Safety for 20 service techs at Golden Valley Microwave Foods (Edina). • Detailed Screw Threads, Machining Speeds & Feeds at Tol-O-Matic in Hamel. • Compact II NC Programming for about 20 engineers and technicians at Graco. • Created sections on machining and sheet metal work as part of comprehensive training book that Dunwoody created for General Mills machine service techs, for use in their plants across the U.S. • Instructed 3 research scientists at Baxter Medical’s lab in downtown Mpls. basic hands-on machine shop skills and safety (dialysis research lab). |
