Education M. A. and Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering, Harvard University Career Ephraim Sparrow is considered one of the fathers of modern heat transfer and fluid mechanics. He has published approximately 600 archival journal papers and has over 80 PhD students. His research is very broad and includes both fundamental and applied studies. He has completed pioneering work in radiation heat transfer, natural convection, biological heat transfer, laminar/turbulent fluid flow, porous media flow, mass transfer, numerical modeling, boiling and evaporation, jet flow, and compressible fluid flows, to name a few. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He has won every major heat transfer or mechanical engineering award and was the most cited scientific researcher for approximately a decade. He has founded and edited numerous journals including the ASME Journal of Heat Transfer, Numerical Heat Transfer, International Journal of Heat Transfer, Advances in Numerical Heat Transfer, and the Handbook of Numerical Heat Transfer series.
