FCL Event - Flattening the Classroom: September 23-24, 2009

Join us September 23–24, 2009 for Flattening the Classroom: Building Collaborative Learning Environments. Hosted by the EduCAUSE Learning Initiative, participants in this virtual community event will explore an approach to learning that engages students in the active construction of collective knowledge, empowering them to build meaning together and challenging them to examine issues from multiple perspectives. Attendees will also work together to:

• Develop an understanding of what it means to effectively collaborate in the classroom
• Create a framework for the design of meaningful and purposeful activities in the classroom
• Reflect on the potential for social learning to promote critical thinking and spark student discussion
• Explore emerging practices for designing collaborative environments in physical and virtual spaces
• Consider assessment strategies for collaborative activities

The event will be held September 23-23 in the Faculty Center for eLearning, OSF room 102, and in TMH LL09.

Come as you can! You are welcome to attend any of the sessions during the two-day event but as seating is limited for the event, we ask that you register by sending an email to the Faculty Center for eLearning at fcl@stthomas.edu with the day(s) that you would like to attend and if you will be attending in Minneapolis or St. Paul.
