The University of St. Thomas College of Applied Professional Studies (CAPS) is aware of the acute shortage of and growing need for persons of color in all facets of urban education, in urban organizations, and in the professional practice of counseling psychology. In response to this awareness, the College is offering graduate students in the School of Education and the Graduate School of Professional Psychology an opportunity to apply for a Urban Engagement Scholarship. CAPS offer a limited amount of tuition assistance each academic term to students of color who demonstrate both financial need and a commitment to urban involvement.
Please note that there is a different application form for the Diversity Grant at the UST Financial Aid website.
Purpose
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist candidates of color who are interested in working within the local urban community in a professional area supported by study in the College of Applied Professional Studies.
Eligibility
Details
Each School of Education department and the Graduate School of Professional Psychology has funds available and determine their scholarship awards. Scholarship amounts vary by department and individual case. The UST Financial Aid office applies the award to a student’s tuition statement at the beginning of the term as part of a student’s total financial aid package. Accepting a scholarship may make a person ineligible for other previously awarded funds. Student registration is required for the term in which the scholarship is awarded. If a “hold” appears on a student’s record, the award cannot be allocated. Scholarships are not automatically renewable. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to continue receiving scholarships.
Following University registration policy, students dropping their term course(s) or withdrawing from St. Thomas, will forfeit all or a portion of their term’s scholarship award.
