Jack Katz is currently a professor of sociology at the University of California Los Angeles. His research interests include social psychology, ethnographic methods, urban communities and crime, law, and deviance. The author of numerous books and articles including, Seductions of Crime, Poor People's Lawyers in Transition, and his latest, How Emotions Work, he was also editor for the American Journal of Sociology. Dr. Katz earned his B.A. from Colgate University, his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, and his Ph.D. from Northwestern University. Currently, Dr. Katz is conducting ethnographic research through an National Science Foundation grant exploring the use of public spaces for leisure by diverse populations in Los Angeles. |

Dr. Katz explores the depths of human emotion with his latest book, How Emotions Work. A variety of different emotional situations are discussed from the opening chapter, “Pissed Off in L.A.” through ending notes, “Mundane Metamorphoses.” Audio and video files that are examined in chapters five and six are available through Dr. Katz’s website.
