The Value of Multi-Disciplinary Perspectives
Submission Categories
Presenters can submit their proposals to one of the following categories, based on either topic or methodology. If your proposal does not readily fit into one of the specified categories, please approximate. The Midwest Qualitative Research Conference committee will make appropriate categorical designations after reviewing individual proposals.
K-12 and Higher Education
Proposals in this category will focus on aspects of K-12 education including, but not limited to: multicultural issues, teacher leadership, early education, mental and physical disabilities, social justice, curriculum and technology. Innovative research that supports education is appropriate for this category.
Social Sciences
Proposals in this category will focus on research pertaining to social science disciplines including, but not limited to: anthropology, sociology, political science, psychology, social work, philosophy and women's studies. Research may include language, leadership, communication, policy, administration, development, cognitive issues, environmental concerns and general qualitative research applying to the social sciences.
Health Care
Proposals in this category will focus on health care in the broadest sense. From common diseases, disabilities, Eastern vs. Western medical practices and disease transmission, to multicultural aspects of health care, productivity and substance abuse submissions in this category examine all aspects of qualitative research in health care.
Ministry
Proposals in this category will focus on qualitative approaches to ministry and how religion deepens life experience. Submissions can examine the correlation between religion and other aspects of society including: politics, professional relationships, health care, race, education, community and family lives. Research examining individual and group spirituality, both inside and outside of organized religion, should be submitted within this category.
Business, Engineering and Government
Proposals in this category will focus on topics from the private and public sectors. Possible topics include: public policy, politics, finance, entrepreneurship, economics, technology, communications, international relations, accounting, consumer trends, software and hardware advancements, aerospace and law. All qualitative inquiries in business, engineering and government are appropriate in this category.
Methodology
Proposals in this category will focus on the methods underlying the research project. Emphasis can be on methodological assessment or technique including, but not limited to: ethnography, phenomenonology, grounded theory approaches, case studies or narratives. Methods must be limited to qualitative forms of analysis.
Other
Proposals in this category accommodate a wide variety of ideas and research proposals that are not listed previously. Alternative proposals are encouraged and can include original research papers or works-in-progress that cover topics outside defined disciplines but must maintain a qualitative perspective.
