Develop an understanding of the ways that autism spectrum disorders (ASD) effect an individual’s thinking and perceiving and sensory processing and motor, vocational, academic and organizational skills. Provide a personalized educational plan for the student affected with ASD. Help them communicate and relate.
ASD specialists need an appreciation of the theoretical and practical knowledge in the field. They also need to understand how ASD, the third most common developmental disability, affects the life of the child and their family members. A generation ago, 90 percent of the people with autism were eventually placed in institutions. Today, as a result of appropriate and individualized services and programs, even the more severely disabled can be taught skills to allow them to develop to their fullest potential.*
This master’s degree is designed for individuals who want to understand and support the growth, development and learning of students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the characteristics of ASD studying the best practices and methodologies for teaching students with ASD.
