Students enroll in 7 core courses and choose one area of specialization. This program also requires students to participate in a 200-hour, on-the-job application project that synthesizes course outcomes.

  • Examine theories of organizational change.

  • Explore the phases of organization development and change management in organizations.

  • Study interventions to facilitate change and process consulting and action research.

Insights and Practices in Adult Learning and Development (HRDO 561 - 3 credits)

  • Explore the theories and concepts of adult learning and development ? critical for an understanding of human resource practice in organizations.
  • Apply adult learning concepts to your own personal development and your work in organizations.
  • Understand the learning and development of the adult person who is your customer.

Managing Team and Organizational Conflict (HRDO 610 - 3 Credits)

  • Learn to manage interpersonal, intra- and inter-group conflict in organizations.
  • Design conflict management systems that apply to teams and organizations.
  • Study emerging theories, models, practices, and research associated with conflict management.

Measuring Organizational Outcomes (HRDO 585 - 3 Credits)

  • Apply financial concepts to HR practices.
  • Analyze components of a financial statement.
  • Implement various measurement tools to evaluate the effectiveness of human resources in organizations.

Organizational Systems and Processes (HRDO 580 - 3 Credits)

  • Learn guidelines for communicating findings.
  • Understand critical philosophical, political and ethical issues.
  • Create a full-length evaluation plan for a program within your organization.

Learning Systems Design and Delivery (HRDO 549 - 3 Credits)

  • Build knowledge and skills in using a systems approach to the design of instruction programs with a focus on performance improvement systems.
  • Examine instruction models and fundamentals of instruction design.
  • Learn effective delivery methods and training techniques.

Organization Development: Diagnosis, Design and Intervention Systems (HRDO 604 - 3 Credits)

  • Integrate the application, research, and theory (ARTTM) of planned organizational change or organization development (OD).
  • Study organizational culture, power, team building, leadership development, strategic planning, large-scale change efforts, process consulting, 360-degree assessments and organizational structure.

E-learning and Knowledge Management (HRDO 597 - 3 Credits)

  • Explores the impact of technology on human resource leadership practice.
  • Understand technology and learning applications (e.g., e-learning) and the use of technology in managing information or knowledge management.

Human Resource Planning and Staffing (MGMT 611 - 3 Credits)

  • Study the analysis, strategic uses and composition of an organization?s work force.
  • Examine supply and demand of talent.
  • Discover strategies for assessment of talent.
  • Learn about succession planning, recruitment strategies, work force productivity, analysis tools and assessment, and selection techniques.

Compensation and Reward Systems (MGMT 612 - 3 Credits)

  • Understand elements of compensation models.
  • Review legislation impacting compensation practices.
  • Explore equity and market factors.
  • Study pay delivery systems, job evaluation techniques, strategic planning, compensation and incentive plan design, pay for performance and market survey techniques.
  • Examine the impact of compensation practices on productivity, morale and profits.
  • Meet many of the American Compensation Association standards for ACA currency credit.

Employment and Discrimination Law (BLAW 700 - 3 Credits)

  • Examine the principles of employment law and its impact on business.
  • Study employment laws and their impact on business as well as employment law practices and trends.
  • Review statutory framework, major court cases, how the laws of contract and tort apply to employment situations, and anti-discrimination laws.
  • Develop the ability to recognize, analyze and evaluate employment situations from a practical legal perspective.

Change Agent Skills Laboratory (HRDO 609 - 3 Credits)

  • Plan, lead and facilitate a transformation intervention.
  • Build skills in startup, assessment, feedback, action planning, evaluation and adoption.

Program Evaluation Strategies and Applications (HRDO 514 - 3 Credits)

  • Study the role of research and evaluation in organizations.
  • Evaluate designs and models for studies.
  • Learn methodologies for data collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Understand guidelines for communicating findings.
  • Review critical philosophical, political and ethical issues.
  • Critique a published work.
  • Create a full-length evaluation plan for a program within your organization.
  • Deliver a presentation in which they advocate for support of their evaluation plan.

Strategic Planning, Design and Facilitation (HRDO 615 - 3 Credits)

  • Learn current theories about strategic planning, as well as how to lead a planning process for organizations of all types and sizes.
  • Review the role of organizational context, selected models, the application of competitor intelligence and phases of the strategic planning process.

  • Discover the linkage of career development to other components and issues within the human resources arena.
  • Explore strategies and tools needed to implement career development within the context of the organization.

Talent Assessment Systems and Methods (HRDO 606 - 3 Credits)

  • Learn to administer, interpret, and provide guidance to employees through the use of a number of career assessment instruments and strategies.
  • Advise employees and management regarding hiring, promotions, employee training, and development needs and issues.
  • Gain knowledge of testing content and construct validity, test reliability and objectivity issues, and legal considerations.

Coaching and Mentoring (HRDO 616 - 3 Credits)

  • Explore various models of coaching and mentoring.
  • Study the impact of relationship-oriented development programs on individuals in organizations.
  • Learn various theories underlying coaching and mentoring, and their application to coaching and mentoring methodologies and programs in organizations.
