The Cohort Model

The cohort model is an engaging, collaborative learning process. Students typically are working professionals who study with a group of 20 to 25 of their peers or cohort. Each student cohort is carefully selected to assure wide organizational and experiential representation.

Each cohort is a community in which students are valued for their experiences. A variety of factors are considered in the creation of the cohort. The maximum mixture of factors is considered to reflect the field and the changing socio-cultural climate to create the most powerful learning community possible.

Guidelines for cohort member selection and the rationale for their use will be determined by the admissions committee which includes factors such as:

  • The student's profile, which demonstrates the ability to engage in a challenging program, scholarship, commitment to the field of study, and involvement of reflective practice.
  • Representation from a variety of organizations.
  • Representation across industries.
  • Equity factor (e.g. racial/cultural diversity, gender, educational backgrounds and years of professional experience).
