Core Courses

Introduction to Human Resource Leadership (HRDO 546 – 3 Credits)

  • Study the fundamental theories and practices of human resource development (HRD), human resource management (HRM) and organization development (OD).
  • Explore human resource leadership roles and trends impacting organizations. 

Organization Development: Diagnosis, Design and Intervention Systems (HRDO 604 – 3 Credits)

  • Integrate the application, research, and theory (ARTTM) of planned organizational change or organization development (OD).
  • Study organizational culture, power, team building, leadership development, strategic planning, large-scale change efforts, process consulting, 360-degree assessments and organizational structure.
  • Apply theory and research in real-world projects.

Change Agent Skills Laboratory (HRDO 609 – 3 Credits)

  • Plan, lead and facilitate a transformation intervention.
  • Build skills in startup, assessment, feedback, action planning, evaluation and adoption.

Program Evaluation Strategies and Applications (HRDO 514 – 3 Credits)

  • Study role of research and evaluation in organizations.
  • Evaluate designs and models for studies.
  • Learn methodologies for data collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Understand guidelines for communicating findings.
  • Review critical philosophical, political and ethical issues.
  • Critique a published work.
  • Create a full-length evaluation plan for a program within your organization.
  • Deliver a presentation in which they advocate for support of their evaluation plan.

Strategic Planning, Design and Facilitation (HRDO 640 – 3 Credits)

  • Learn current theories about strategic planning, as well as how to lead a planning process for organizations of all types and sizes.
  • Review the role of organizational context, selected models, the application of competitor intelligence, and phases of the strategic planning process.

E-learning and Knowledge Management (HRDO 597 – 3 Credits)

  • Explore the impact of technology on human resource leadership practice.
  • Understand technology and learning applications (e.g., e-learning) and the use of technology in managing information or knowledge management.
  • Examine the impact of technology on people in organizations.

Talent Assessment Systems and Methods (HRDO 640 – 3 Credits)

  • Learn to administer, interpret and provide guidance to employees through the use of a number of career assessment instruments and strategies.
  • Advise employees and management regarding hiring, promotions, employee training and development needs and issues.
  • Gain knowledge of testing content and construct validity, test reliability and objectivity issues, and legal considerations.

One Elective


Internship (HRDO 570 – 3 credits)

  • Participate in a 200-hour, on-the-job application project that synthesizes course outcomes.
