Since its founding in 1987, the doctoral program in educational leadership has welcomed students from many regions in Minnesota, several Midwestern states and Canada. Graduates report feeling ready for greater responsibilities. Consistently they say an important gain has been friendships and a transformed way of thinking about their work and their lives. Professional evaluators have given the program high praise.
"Educating for freedom, which I consider a 'strategic' form of leadership, can come through love, kindness, civility, care and respect for the fellow person."
"This program has given me the tools and fortitude to examine the ethical dimensions of decision-making."
"Keep focusing on education leaders developing their critical analysis and reflection skills. Leaders must be able to think broadly about the world and their leadership contexts."
"From my personal perspective, the strengths of the program are in its clear sequence of curricular strands and in the quality of the interaction between staff and cohort members. I enjoyed the applied focus of the program with a healthy amount of research and theory."
"The doctoral progam in leadership at the University of St. Thomas is a vibrant example of graduate education at its best. I cannont remember being at an institution where the students were so engaged in meaningful academic work. I believe the faculty there have been extremely successful in creating a real learning community."

"The cohort model is wonderful, and I think my cohort has been gifted with intelligent, articulate and caring individuals from widely diverse backgrounds."
"The cohort setup was very beneficial and created a solid bond amongst colleagues that is difficult to create in any other setting. I appreciate the emphasis on writing, electives available from other disciplines and accessibility of faculty."
"This has been a fabulous learning experience for me, and I recommend the program highly to colleagues and friends."
"I have never--and that word is specifically used--found any UST professor unwilling to stop, think, discuss, and//or listen to my ideas, directions or musings. For that, you have my gratitude and respect."
"The polical, economic and cultural analysis of a case from our own leadership practice was pivotal for me."
