Integrating Technology into Today's Classrooms

This program helps develop leaders in the use of educational technology. This program integrates information technology, models of learning and instructional systems design. You will also explore professional and ethical aspects of using technology in educational settings.

Acquire skills and knowledge in the pedagogical applications of learning technology in desktop publishing, presentation tools, Web development, digital media, data-driven decision-making tools, video production, concept mapping, and information management. Create projects that can be immediately applied to classroom while gaining confidence in using educational technology.

Program participants explore ways to:

  • Improve classroom learning through the application of innovative technologies to instruction and curriculum development.
  • Understand, demonstrate and integrate essential educational technology tools.
  • Become leaders in educational change.
  • Communicate, design and implement innovations in your classrooms and communities.

The highly-regarded St. Thomas learning technology program is:

  • Linked with the International Society on Technology for Educators (ISTE) and National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS).

Minnesota Keyboarding Licensure

The learning technologies certificate program has received  state of Minnesota approval to provide endorsement in Teachers of Keyboarding for Computer Applications in grades K-8 (an additional 3-credit practicum course is required). If you are already a licensed teacher, this program will help you to develop
an electronic portfolio to receive a licensure endorsement to teach technology-related topics. Licensure 8710.452

By earning the Master of Arts in Learning Technology you will be able to:

  • Apply current learning theory, instructional principles, research and appropriate assessment practices to the use of computers and related technologies as they relate to their curriculum areas.
  • Demonstrate use of computers for problem-solving, data collection, information management, communications, presentations and decision making.
  • Design and develop student learning activities integrating computing and other technologies for a variety of student grouping strategies and diverse student populations.
  • Demonstrate skills in using productivity tools for professional and personal use.
  • Access information to enhance professional productivity.
  • Understand how related technologies facilitate emerging roles of the learner and the educator.

Wisconsin Educators

Meet the 10 Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and Licensure outlined in PI 34 and develop a Professional Development Plan to use for licensure renewal.

The course objectives for the Master of Arts in Learning Technology meet the requirements for all 10 Wisconsin Standards for Teacher Development and Licensure. Develop a standards-based professional portfolio throughout the program, which is a part of these requirements. Your adviser will consult with you to ensure compliance with the Wisconsin Professional Development Plan.
