NBPTS Standards within the MACI Degree

The MACI degree bases its program of study on The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) as a framework for the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that highly qualified educators should possess.  Graduate students in the MACi program are not required to submit materials for National Board certification, but completion of the MACI degree preprares teachers well for eventual Board certification if they chose to pursue this.

The NBPTS core porositions and standards are addressed throughout the MACI courses, and students document competencies associated with the standards by including artifacts and narratives in an electronic portfolio for their capstone project, CIED 799: eFolio Integrative Project.

The five core NBPTS propsitions are:

  1. Teachers are committed to students and their learning
  2. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.
  3. Teachers are responisble for managing and monitoring student learning.
  4. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience.
  5. Teachers are members of learning communities.
