Developing Your Learners Unique Talents

This degree will help you understand your students' diverse learning needs. It will prepare you to provide services in gifted education and talent development programs and make a difference for gifted, creative and talented learners.

St. Thomas is one of few United States institutions that offers a master�s program in gifted, creative and talented education. St. Thomas has nationally recognized researchers, trainers and designers of talent development programs.

Acquire practical strategies for the real-world, day-to-day needs of your students and apply what you learn immediately in the classroom. You will demonstrate proficiency through classroom participation and applications within a framework of product and process-oriented assignments. You will also participate in a practicum experience and make a contribution to the field through a final creative product (research or innovative curriculum design).

This program prepares educators and administrators to provide differentiated educational opportunities for gifted, creative and talented (GCT) learners. You will learn:

  • GCT instruction design.
  • GCT curriculum development.
  • Appropriate GCT teaching strategies.
  • Identification system design.
  • Implementation and evaluation of programs.
  • Planning staff development.
  • Development of original research and reporting in the field.

This program will help you:

  • Become knowledgeable about the various dimensions of giftedness.
  • Understand the social and emotional needs of GCT students.
  • Use the contributions and implications of recent research in the field to expand educational practice.
  • Be aware of appropriate GCT identification and assessment measures for diverse populations of children and adolescents.
