Critical Pedagogy

     Advancing Social Justice

The University of St. Thomas' doctoral program in critical pedagogy is the only program of its kind in the country.

Critical pedagogy is an interdisciplinary field committed to social justice, equality and freedom. It aims to understand education through a critical examination of the unequal power dynamics in society and offers alternatives to the status quo.

Critical pedagogy includes and goes beyond classroom teaching and learning. It includes educational practices in schools and a variety of institutions including public, private, nonprofit and community organizations. It addresses educational issues in multiple contexts --- individual, local and global.

Critical pedagogy prepares you to be a successful change agent in the struggle for justice and liberation in the classroom and beyond.
