Certificate in Reading Instruction Courses

The Certificate in Reading Instruction with an elementary or a secondary focus is a 12-credit course of study. Credits apply towards the K-12 reading endorsement and the Master of Arts in Reading program.

Certificate in Reading Instruction: Elementary Focus

Research in Literacy (READ 500 - 3 Credits)

  • Examine literacy research for source, design, implication and classroom applications.

Emergent Literacy K-2 (READ 501 - 3 Credits)

  • Learn developmentally appropriate practices for kindergarten and primary grades.

Balanced Literacy K-6 (READ 701 - 3 Credits)

  • Develop knowledge and strategies in planning and teaching reading in grades K-6.
  • Explore the best current practices and professional reading standards.

Reading Assessment and Remediation (READ 704 - 3 Credits)

  • Explore the nature and causality of reading problems.
  • Study formal and informal approaches to diagnosis.
  • Develop reading programs for specific reading needs.
