Meeting the Education Needs of Our Increasingly Diverse Community
Over the past two decades, the Twin Cities have enjoyed a significant rise in their Hmong, Hispanic, Somali and other immigrant populations.  From 1979 to 2003, the number of children who spoke a language other than English in the home grew by 161 percent.  Due to this extreme growth, English as a Second Language (ESL) ranked second in teacher shortage areas in Minnesota for the 2005-2006 school year. To meet this growing need, The University of St. Thomas is offering an opportunity for licensed teachers to earn their Endorsement in English as a Second Language and Master of Arts degree in Golden Valley.
