This graduate certificate program for PK-12 educators integrates reading and writing instruction with the best practices in technologies. In this innovative four-course program, educators will learn effective advanced strategies for improving language and literacy skills. While the focus of the program will be on the reader and the literacy process, the courses represent a variety of theoretical orientations, including new criticism, structuralism, phenomenology, transitive and interactive. Today, all educators must be reading teachers.
The coursework in this program will draw on a range of concepts and techniques elaborated by theorists and teachers working in different areas and orientations. Students will have the opportunity to study and to choose from the most cutting-edge reading research, as well as theory and practice for application in their classrooms. A constructivist approach will be the underpinning of all course formats. Constructivism is the belief that people are active seekers and constructors of knowledge and thus come into the classroom environment with innate goals and curiosities.
