    The University of St. Thomas, founded in 1885 by Archbishop John Ireland, is a Catholic, independent, liberal arts, comprehensive regional archdiocesan university that emphasizes values-centered, career-oriented education.

     St. Thomas is Minnesota's largest independent college or university.

     Enrollment Fall 2004: 5,302 undergraduates; 5,172 graduate students.

     The University of St. Thomas is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA); Minnesota Board of Teaching (Mn BOT), and for out-of-state graduate degree programs, by the responsible regional accrediting agency and by the U.S. Department of Education. Graduate programs offered by the School of Education are approved by the Minnesota State Department of Education.
