Mark Shields

Master of Arts, 1967

After receiving a University of St. Thomas Master of Arts in Teaching degree, Shields became an officer in the St. Paul Police Department and eventually headed the department's training unit. He went on to become executive director of the Minnesota Board of Peace Officer Standards and Training, superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and head of the Minnesota Attorney General's Office of Criminal Justice. He later became chief of staff for Mayor Norm Coleman, and deputy mayor of the city of St. Paul. Shields is president of the American Security, LLC.
