Burnell Anderson

Educational Specialist,1979

Anderson graduated the University of St. Thomas with an educational specialist degree in educational leadership in 1979. He is an outstanding example of an educational leader. Starting with work in the Stillwater, Minn. public schools, Anderson distinguished himself as both a teacher and an innovator, ultimately determining the direction of education in the schools in which he served. As a principal he received the District 834
(Stillwater) Administrator Excellence Award, and his school, Oak Park Elementary, received the Minnesota Blue Ribbon School award and the United States Blue Ribbon School award as a National School of Excellence. He has served on numerous education related committees, maintains prestigious professional affiliations and has worked with the Minnesota Department of
Education. Anderson is venerated for his personal integrity and open mindedness. He has contributed to the work of the University of St. Thomas’s Collaborative Urban Education program as an extraordinary mentor and has been an adjunct faculty member for the School of Education.
