Admission

  1. Meet the requirements:
    • A Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
    • View our degrees and programs for program specific requirements.
    • Special admission policies apply to certain programs. Please check program pages for specific eligibility.
  2. Submit the following application materials:
    • Application form
    • Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work (unless that work was completed at the University of St. Thomas).
      • Submit transcripts to: Graduate Admissions, University of St. Thomas, Box 5, 1000 LaSalle Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55403
    • Personal statement.
  3. Submit the supplementary materials:
    • Initial Licensure (Education Applicants Only): MTLE Basic Skills required by the end of an initial teacher licensure candidate's first semester of coursework.
    • International Applicants:
      1. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) required for any candidate whose primary language is not English.
      2. Transcript Review: All international transcripts must be reviewed by an accredited evaluation service to determine U.S. equivalency of the degree awarded and the institution awarding the degree. Applications will not be reviewed for admissions until the official review is submitted.
    • Official GRE score
      • There is no minimum cut score factored into the admissions decision

International Admission

  1. Our basic requirements:
    • English proficiency: If English is not your native language, we require the TOEFL (80 iBT; 20 on remaining sections) or the IELTS (6.5 minimum).
    • International Transcript Evaluation: All international transcripts must be reviewed by an accredited evaluation service to determine U.S. equivalency of the degree awarded and the institution awarding the degree. Applications will not be reviewed for admissions until the official review is submitted.

  2. Submit the following application materials:
    • Application form
    • Most of our programs require letters of reference. Please refer to your program page for program specific requirements.
    • Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work (unless that  work was completed at the University of St. Thomas).

    • Personal statement.
    • Completed International Student Questionnaire and Financial Certification Form (PDF).
    • Official documentation of your financial support current within the last 3 months.
  3. Immigration paperwork:
    • A copy of the picture page from your passport.
    • Copies of the picture pages from your dependents' passports, if they will be accompanying you on F-2 or J-2 visa status.
    • Applicants who are already inside the U.S. must submit a copy of their current visa and a copy of their I-94 card.
    • Applicants transferring an F-1 visa from another U.S. school must submit a copy of their most recent I-20 form and a SEVIS Transfer Form (PDF).

Transfer Admission

  1. Meet the basic requirements:
    • A cumulative minimum undergraduate G.P.A. of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or the successful completion of a graduate level program from another institution
    • Find your program on our academics page for program specific requirements.
  2. Meet the supplementary requirements:
    • MTLE Basic Skills required for any candidate being admitted into an initial teacher licensure program.
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) required for any candidate whose primary language is not English.
  3. Explore transfer credit opportunities:
    • Up to 9 credits may transfer into a Masters Degree or Licensure program with the approval of the department.
    • Courses must be graded on an A/F scale, contain a grade of 'B' or higher, and have been taken within the last five years.
