Police Leadership

Improving the Communities in Which We Work and Live

No matter what your assignment - patrol, investigation, supervision, training or other specialized areas - you are faced with new leadership opportunities and demands. People look toward leaders who are knowledgeable, collaborative and have the integrity to handle consequential situations encountered every day.

As the first higher education institution in Minnesota to offer police supervisory and executive education more than 45 years ago, St. Thomas continues to offer quality advanced training for law enforcement officers. Known as a national leader in graduate police education through its partnerships with police and community organizations nationwide, this program gives you learning opportunities beyond the classroom in local communities and nationally.

In this program you will gain leadership skills for your job and life. You will learn to be a reflective practitioner who thinks critically, acts ethically and through collaboration improves the communities in which we work and live.

The St. Thomas Difference

Experienced police educators and a diverse core faculty teach courses in this program. Faculty and advisers provide the personal attention you need to make the most of your graduate learning experience.

In a learning community, or “cohort,” a group of your peers will proceed through the program together. You’ll get support from one another along the way. This program is designed to fit into your busy life, with evening classes and a concentrated course of study.

In this program you will:

  • Discover the foundations of leadership and leadership theory.
  • Understand organizational theory related to police leadership.
  • Enhance your leadership skills.
  • Use research skills for program planning, policy analysis and evaluation.
