Sioux Falls Ed.D Classes begin Spring, 2010

In collaboration with the University of Sioux Falls, the University of St. Thomas, since 2003 has been offering the doctorate in Leadership on the Sioux Falls campus. A new cohort, the third Sioux Falls cohort, is scheduled to begin in the Spring, 2010.

Leaders make a difference within their organization, turning possibilities into strategies and transforming organizations. They apply advanced research methods to issues central to leadership and leading practices to meet the needs of the day-to-day and strategic needs of an organization.

The Flexibility You Need

This interdisciplinary cohort program is designed for working professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds, including health care, K-12 education, non-profit organizations, higher education, ministry, police, business and more. Classes meet one weekend a month on the University of Sioux Falls campus.

During your doctoral studies, you will learn the foundations of leadership by:

  • Contributing to a culture of intellectual challenge and support within a community of learners.
  • Deepening your understanding of leadership and organizational theory.
  • Analyzing critical issues in education related to equity, global interdependence, conflicting cultural values, and accelerating social and technological change.
  • Examining ethical dimensions of policy and decision making.
  • Utilizing research, critical analysis and imagination in planning, problem solving and evaluation.
  • Increasing knowledge and understanding in specialized areas of education and leadership.

Collateral Courses

Working with an advisor, each student will develop a concentration area. This area may include UST courses, USF courses or transfer courses in education, business, management, leadership and more.

Dissertation Requirement

Dissertation
(EDLD 922, 923, 924 and 925 - 12 credits total)

This major paper demonstrates the doctoral student’s ability to research an important question in leadership and to present and interpret the findings in clear and logical written form. The dissertation
is completed under the supervision of a faculty chair and is formally presented in an oral presentation to the dissertation committee.
