Meal Plan FAQ

Who needs a meal plan?

All resident students (except students living in Morrison, Flynn, CDC, Transfer Houses, or Grand apartments) are required to purchase a meal plan. If no meal plan is selected, the student is automatically placed on the Block 150 plan. Any meal plan is available to non-resident (off-campus) students but is not required.

When and where can I use my meal plan?

The meal plans offered during the fall and spring semesters are designed to meet a variety of student needs. Meal plan participants are welcome to dine in the The View and at the Binz on the St. Paul campus or Food for Thought in Minneapolis.

Flex dollars may be used at any of the following locations for food items:
Beakers Coffee Cart, Brady Coffee Cart, Summit Marketplace, Food For Thought, Pit Stop, Scooter’s, T's and The Loft

Check the Dining Services website for location hours.

Meals and flex dollars do not carry over to the next semester.

What if I want to change my meal plan?

Meal Plan participants have only the first two weeks of each semester to DECREASE their meal plan. You can INCREASE your meal plan at anytime.

If you want to change your meal plan, stop by the Card Office to fill out a Meal Plan Change Form. If you have questions contact the Card Office, MHC 101, or 651-962-6069.

What if I have special dietary needs or allergies?

If you have special dietary needs, allergies or concerns and are under a doctor’s supervision, please contact the Student Dining Coordinator at 651-962-6067 to discuss your needs. Dietitian services are available through the Wellness Center, 651-962-6128.

What if my schedule conflicts with dining location hours?

If you have class, lab, or a work conflict, you need not miss a meal.

Bag lunches are available from T's. Students indicate the day(s) they require a bag lunch as well as pick-up date(s), and can pick up their bag lunch anytime T's is open.  Their lunch will include 1 deli or grill item to go, choice of chips, cookie, or fruit, and a fountain beverage or bottled milk or juice.

Stop by the Card Office, MHC 101, to fill out a Bag Lunch Form. If you have any questions call 651-962-6069.

What if I spend a lot of time in Minneapolis?

Meal Plan participant purchases (up to $6.75) can be exchanged for one meal from your plan at Food For Thought on the Minneapolis campus. No prepackaged items qualify for the exchange but can be purchased with Flex, eXpress, debit, credit or cash at the time of purchase.

What if I want to bring a guest?

If you wish to bring a guest to eat in The View or the BINZ, you may use your guest meals attached to your meal plan. You can also use your flex dollars, pay cash, or your eXpress account.

Meal prices for 2012-2013 are as follows:
Breakfast $7.25 -- Brunch/Lunch $8.75 -- Dinner $9.00

The number of guest meals per meal plan is:
Block 225 = 4 guest meals
Block 180 = 6 guest meals
Block 150 = 6 guest meals

What if I withdraw from St. Thomas or terminate my housing contract during the semester?

Students who have a meal plan and withdraw from St. Thomas will be refunded on a pro-rated basis. When a resident terminates their housing contract it also cancels their meal plan.
