Biology

I am very glad to be joining the faculty of Dougherty Family College and to contribute to the college’s mission of providing access to a college education to students that otherwise may not have had such an opportunity. I share in the Dougherty Family College’s belief that the value of an education extends beyond giving students a greater opportunity to prosper.

As an educator, I believe in the transformative power of education to immeasurably enrich the lives of students. As a citizen, I am motivated by the belief that an educated citizenry is vital to the functioning of a democracy and to the prosperity of all its citizens. As an ecologist, I firmly believe that a post-secondary education should provide all students with the basic knowledge of the natural processes that sustain life on Earth and how these are impacted by human activity.

It is these shared beliefs in the fundamental value of education that, as a faculty member, motivate me to make the Dougherty Family College a success.

As an ecologist, I am interested in investigating the factors influencing animal populations, especially of threatened and endangered species. I am particularly interested in collaborative approaches that allow for an understanding of animal population dynamics across levels of biological organization and spatial scales. Being new to Minnesota, I look forward to finding opportunities to apply my skills to local conservation challenges.
