Definitely! Every student who participates in the Student Legacy Campaign makes a difference and helps to continue a tradition that has benefited students for decades.
For its senior class gift, the class of 2008 is establishing an endowed scholarship for sophomores, juniors and seniors who live on campus.
Leaving this legacy is a wonderful way to help cultivate the sense of community at St. Thomas, and to help future Tommies to have fewer financial burdens.
Today, you and your classmates are reaping the benefits of the generosity of thousands of alumni who have come before you. The tuition that you pay does not cover the entire cost of your education at St. Thomas. Contributions from alumni and other friends of the university help to make up the difference.
Many alumni contribute to scholarships for students, and most senior classes establish scholarship funds as part of their senior class gifts. However, even students who do not receive scholarship aid benefit from these gifts because this support enables the university to charge less for tuition than the actual cost of providing a St. Thomas education.
One alumna, who set up a scholarship in memory of her St. Thomas classmate, says it well:
"The personal and professional successes I've experienced since leaving St. Thomas are a direct result of the education that I received and the person who I became while I was there. It is my honor and privilege to support the scholarship program that helped make a St. Thomas education a reality for me."
Read what some scholarship recipients have written about how much their scholarships have meant to them.
