The program will combine lectures with questions and answers that probe key issues in the courses of globalization in our time.  Topics are drawn from the political development of post-Communist Eastern Europe, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the current conflicts between radical Islamicist movements and the United States, the rise of anti-Americanism in Europe, and the legacy of the Bush Doctrine in world affairs.

Nick Hayes is a professor of history and holds the University Chair in Critical Thinking at St. John's University in Collegeville.  He is a specialist in contemporary Russian and East European history and regular commentator for TPT/Twin Cities Public Television's news and public affairs programs NewsNight Minnesota and Almanac.  He is also a regular contributor to MPR's MIDDAY and the Star Tribune.  He has published over 50 articles in publications ranging from the academic Slavic Review to the popular Interview Magazine.  During 1994-95, he held a Fulbright Fellowship as a journalist in residence in the former Yugoslavia.  From there, he filed regular reports for TPT, MPR, the Star Tribune, and VOA Dateline Bosnia.
