Material and equipment from the existing arena, field house and theater are being salvaged, reused and recycled to the full extent that market and construction schedule permit. Items salvaged for reuse in the new complex or elsewhere on campus include, but are not limited to, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, light fixtures, wood bleachers, scoreboards, lockers, basketball hoops and wood flooring.
The demolition contractor is separating out all steel beams and columns, copper, steel reinforcing bars, concrete, precast and Mankato Stone for recycling. These materials will not be going into landfills, but will be used in other forms on other projects and construction sites.
The concrete, precast and Mankato stone will be crushed and used as subgrade base for road construction projects. The Mankato stone was reviewed for a variety of reuse and recycling opportunities, but use as base was determined to be the most viable given the condition of the stone once it was removed from the exterior walls.
