  • Dr. Nick Nissley, Organization Learning and Development Department, presented “Appreciative Storytelling: Discovering Your Organization's Strengths” to a group of Hennepin County employees.
  • Dr. Karen Rogers, School of Education, is the author of a new book, Re-Forming Gifted Education: Matching the Program to the Child.
  • Stephen Brookfield, School of Education, recently published "Overcoming Alienation as the Practice of Adult Education: The Contribution of Erich Fromm to a Critical Theory of Adult Learning" in Adult Education Quarterly, Vol. 57, #2 (2002).
  • Dr. Fred Zimmerman, Graduate Programs in Engineering and Technology Management, gave a talk on Jan. 30 at the Minnesota Science Museum on "The History of Energy."
  • Dr. Heino Beckmann, Finance Department and Master of International Management program, was the keynote speaker at the naturalization ceremony Feb. 6, 2002 in St. Paul. At the event, 735 people became new U.S. citizens.
  • Tom Carey, International Student Services, is the author of an article about St. Thomas' response to the events of Sept. 11 and the Globally Minded Student Association's peace flags project for the current issue of NAFSA: Association of International Educators Newsletter.
  • Dr. Bonnie Holte Bennett, Graduate Programs in Software, and alumnus and lab researcher Emmett Davis continue to provide strategic consulting services to Web development and user-centered design to intranet development teams focusing on asthma and other medical forums for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
  • Dr. Mitchell Kusy, Organization Learning and Development Department, was the keynote speaker at the inaugural conference of the Minnesota Association of Volunteer Administrators Feb. 6, 2002. The title of his address was "Fast Forward Leadership: Seven Practices Every Leader Must Stop and Start Doing Now!"
  • The School of Continuing Studies hosted more than 150 faculty and staff members from 18 Twin Cities private and public colleges for a conference, "Breaking Barriers: Meeting the Classroom and Campus Needs of College ESL Students" Jan. 2, 2002.
  • Dr. Nancy Carter, College of Business, has been appointed to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Women's Business Research.
  • James Rogers, Center for Irish Studies, is the author of a feature article, "Erin Go Brag," in the March issue of Minnesota Monthly. The article contains humorous portraits of well-known authors such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Mary McCarthy, as well as some long-forgotten authors, such as the Rev. Hugh Quigley.
  • Dr. John Wendt, College of Business, has been named one of nine members of the Counselors' Committee of USA Swimming Inc. USA Swimming represents more than 296,000 members and is the national governing body for the sport within the U.S. Olympic Committee. It is responsible for all aspects of the sport's governance in the United States.
